Genital herpes is painful blisters and sores in the genital areas. It is a contagious sexually transmitted disease that causes pain, itching, and discomfort in the genital areas. After an infection through sexual connection, the virus slumbers in your body and can react many times a year. So the signs of infection also go away and come back from time to time. If you are infected with genital herpes, you can be contagious even though you may have no visible sores.
When you develop genital herpes, you may have blisters in or inside the anus also.
Mostly, it is the herpes simplex virus (HSV) that triggers genital herpes. The cause could be vaginal, oral, and anal sex or perhaps through skin-to-skin contact with someone who has open sores.
There is no cure for genital herpes, though ayurvedic treatment may help signs and reduce the risk. You can also use preventive meausres during sex to prevent the transmission of genital herpes infection.
The symptoms of genital sores may vary for men and women.
Men may have generalized signs, including blisters on the:
Women may have symptoms such as:
Blisters or sores may develop in the mouth, lips, face, and anywhere else after you come in contact with the infected person. The area of infection may cause you itching, inflammation, or tingle before even the symptoms may actually be experienced.
The blisters may also exude waste substances or fluid or blood if they become ulcerated.
Your blisters may appear over the ulcerative sores, which is quite painful. Lymph glands help prevent inflammation and fight infection in the body.
You may have headaches, fever, and body pain.
A baby who gets genital herpes (from an infection due to a vaginal delivery) may have ulcers on the face, body, and genitals.
Comorbidities linked to babies born with genital herpes may include:
Tell your doctor that you have genital herpes if you are pregnant. Precautions can be taken to abstain the virus from being transmitted to the baby during the delivery.
Genital herpes is mostly triggered by the herpes simplex virus or HSV. There are two types of HSV.
HSV-1. This is the type that triggers cold or fever blisters in or areas around the mouth. Mostly the transmission can be via skin to skin contact, though it may also spread during oral sex. It is more likely to reoccur from time to time than genital herpes triggered by HSV-2 infection.
HSV-2. This is the type that commonly causes genital herpes that mainly spread through sexual or skin to skin contact. It is highly contagious and does not depend on whether you have open sores or not.
Because the virus dies quickly when on the surface, you may hardly get infected through contact with towels or objects used by the infected person.
HSV-1 or HSV-2 is also present in bodily fluids, including:
Your risk of having genital herpes may expand if you:
Are a woman. Females are more prone to get genital herpes than their male counterparts. The virus is more likely to transmit from men to women than from women to men.
Have multiple sexual partners. Having more than one partner for your sexual intercourse may expose you to the virus than those who have only one partner involved.
Don't adopt safe sex practices. Not adopting safe sex practices like using condoms or other preventing measures may also expand your risk.
When it comes to Ayurvedic treatment for herpes, solutions are available. In Ayurveda, genital herpes is often categorized under the aegis of Aupasargika Rogas. The diagnosis is made on the basis of the symptoms evaluation and the nature of the blisters.
If Vata appears to be predominant, the blisters look dark or grey coloured and appear to be dry and rough.
But if Pitta is more aggravated, blisters or sores appear to be reddish, are moist and tend to exclude fluid abnormally.
On the other hand, if Kapha is a predominant dosha, the blisters look pale and cause dull pain.
